The Process

How Sylai works.

From a sentence or a sketch to a factory-ready tech pack in about ten minutes — three movements, one document.

Three movements

Describe, refine, export.

Describe

Start with a sketch or a sentence.

Upload a reference photo, a hand sketch, or just type what you have in mind. Syl — the in-product design assistant — asks the follow-ups a pattern-maker would: silhouette, fabric weight, closures, construction. No forms, no jargon, no spreadsheets.

Minute 1–2

Refine

Review the flat sketch and specs together.

Sylai renders a flat technical sketch from your description and places measurement callouts on top. Revise by chatting — “shorten the skirt by two inches”, “switch the zipper to a side seam”. The sketch, callouts, and measurement table update together so they never drift out of sync.

Minute 3–7

Export

Send a factory-ready PDF.

Export a tech pack in the format factories already read: technical drawings, bill of materials, measurement table, construction notes. Share a link for revisions, or download the PDF and email it. Everything you refined stays in one document.

Minute 8–10

Common questions

Honest answers to the questions designers actually ask.

What inputs does Sylai accept?

A sketch, a reference photo, a mood-board image, or a plain-English description — any or all of the above. Syl asks follow-up questions to fill in the gaps, so you don’t need to get everything right on the first message.

Can I edit the output after it’s generated?

Yes. You can keep chatting with Syl to adjust measurements, swap fabrics, change construction details, or restyle the silhouette. The sketch, callouts, and spec table update together — you never have to reconcile them by hand.

Does it work for my garment type?

Sylai is designed for cut-and-sew apparel — tops, dresses, bottoms, outerwear, and related garments. It’s not tuned for knitwear, footwear, accessories, or heavily tailored suiting today. If the first pass looks wrong for your category, tell Syl what’s off and it will adjust.

How accurate are the measurements?

Measurements are a starting point, not a guarantee. Sylai proposes a first set of specs from your description; you review and adjust them before exporting. For production, you should fit a sample and iterate — same as any other tech-pack workflow. Sylai is there to get you to that first sample faster, not to replace fit reviews.

What if the factory needs revisions?

Make the change in the same conversation — “raise the neckline a half inch”, “switch to a 14-inch zipper” — and re-export. The updated tech pack keeps the same document structure your factory already knows, so they aren’t re-learning a new format every round.

Is my work private?

Your tech packs, sketches, and chats are private to your account. We don’t publish, resell, or expose your work to other users. See the Privacy page for the full data-handling policy.
